Old Navy to Redesign Stores with Racetrack Layout
March 19, 2010
Old Navy, a division of San Francisco-based Gap Inc., plans to remodel its stores this spring with a "racetrack" layout and value wall, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The redesign aims to help customers save time, and will also include a kids' play area, fitting rooms in the center of the store and a "fundamentals" wall with new, low-priced products, said Daniel Rubin, a Gap spokesman. Since Old Navy was founded in 1994, the chain has not received a "wholesale remodel," the paper reported. Gap plans to spend $575 million on capital expenditures in 2010, including the Old Navy store remodels. Old Navy remodeled 50 stores in 2009, and expects to update 200 more of its 1,000-plus stores this year.
