June 18, 2009
New York-based Barnes & Noble Inc. will unveil its new flagship store on the Upper East Side in Manhattan on June 19, reports PublishersWeekly.com. Similar to the company's locations in Union Square and Lincoln Center, the Upper East Side store boasts 55,000 sq. ft. and will carry more than 400,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles. Barnes & Noble COO Mitch Klipper said the new location "will have the best of everything we have to offer,” including an expanded children’s section, a cashwrap queuing system, a custom neighborhood mural and video streams of live information and entertainment. The book retailer will celebrate the store's grand opening with book signings and promotions by authors including Lewis Black, Buzz Aldrin, Emeril Lagasse, Peter Yarrow and Dorothea Benton Frank.
