Callison to Design Mixed-Use Complex in China
December 03, 2008
Seattle-based retail design firm Callison has been selected by developer China Resources Land Limited (CRLL) to design phase one of 24 City, a new urban community that will house more than 60,000 new residents in Chengdu. The 3.3 million-sq.-ft. mixed-use project includes a retail center and a 38-story office tower. To attract the city's burgeoning population of young, active professionals, the hybrid retail complex carefully modulates indoor/outdoor shopping and entertainment among lush landscaping and expansive view terraces. The complex's design also includes an indoor skating rink, an eight-screen movie complex and a supermarket. The restaurants and public garden will remain open after the center closes, offering public events and positioning 24 City as a nighttime destination. Callison will complete design development before the Chinese New Year. Ground-breaking is scheduled for March 2009.

DDI visited the new JCPenney department store at Manhattan Mall in New York and spoke with store manager Joe Cardamone. Below is video of that conversation paired with a walk-through tour of the new store. For more on the JCPenney store, look out for DDI's November/December issue mailing out at the end of November.
