Diesel to Relocate San Francisco Flagship
July 06, 2009
Molvena, Italy-based Diesel S.p.A. is relocating its flagship store in San Francisco’s Union Square district, reports WWD.com. Slated to open July 10, Diesel’s new 11,200-sq.-ft., two-story corner location on Market Street will be located only five blocks away from the original flagship on Post Street, but the Market location will receive “more traffic,” according to Diesel U.S. CEO Steve Birkhold. “We believe there has been a shift where the consumer wants to go [in the Union Square area], and Market Street is what we’re betting on,” Birkhold said. The new store will be in the proximity of a regional subway entrance and popular retailers, including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Gap, Old Navy and Ross, allowing the company to reach out to a wider audience. It will feature 17-ft. windows, an abstract copper staircase, a large Italian-made chandelier and restored Italian vintage furnishings.
