Cartier to Expand in India
March 08, 2010
Watch maker Cartier announced plans to expand its distribution network in India, according to The Financial Express. "India is a very important region and its culture is very influential in art and jewelry," said Louis Ferla, Cartier managing director, Middle East and India. "The country is very promising and we are looking to further expand our distribution network." Currently, the luxury retailer operates 14 boutiques in the U.A.E., Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon and India. The company first entered the Indian market in 2008, and has one boutique in New Delhi and 15 retailers in eight other major Indian cities. Cartier plans to open more boutiques by the end of 2010 in the Middle East and India. "India is one of the fastest growing millionaires' economy, and consumers have started recognizing the need for luxury goods and services," Ferla said. "However, the luxury market in India is still in its nascent stage and requires careful strategies to enter and sustain."
