Abercrombie & Fitch to Close 180 Stores

New Albany, Ohio-based Abercrombie & Fitch Co. plans to close 180 stores over the course of the next few years, according to The Wall Street Journal. The store closings are part of the retailer’s move to replace U.S. mall locations with higher-margin stores overseas. The company closed 135 stores within the past two years. Currently, Abercrombie operates a total of 1,049 stores, including 279 Abercrombie & Fitch stores, 154 abercrombie kids stores, 491 Hollister Co. stores and 18 Gilly Hicks stores in the United States. Internationally, the company operates 15 namesake stores, five abercrombie kids stores, 84 Hollister Co. stores and three Gilly Hicks stores.
