Apple Hires Burberry CEO as Retail Chief
October 15, 2013
Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc. has hired Angela Ahrendts, currently chief executive of British luxury retailer Burberry Group PLC, to head up its retail efforts, according to The Wall Street Journal. Ahrendts will join Apple next year in the newly created position of senior vice president of retail and online stores, reporting directly to Apple chief executive Tim Cook. In this new role, she will oversee the strategic direction, expansion and operation of both Apple retail and online stores. The appointment fills a gap in Apple’s retail operations, resulting from the 2011 departure of Ron Johnson. His replacement, John Browett, left the company last year. Ahrendts has served as CEO of Burberry since 2006. Prior to joining Burberry, she was executive vice president for Liz Claiborne Inc., and earlier in her career she served as president of Donna Karan Intl.
