February 21, 2012

Charlotte, N.C.-based Belk Inc. plans to remodel approximately 30 stores in 2012, according to The Charlotte Observer. The retailer spent roughly $70 million on store remodels in 2011, and plans to spend up to $75 million in 2012. This year, Belk will relocate two stores—one in Waynesville, N.C., and one in Pensacola, Fla.—expand four locations, remodel 13 stores and partially remodel 10 more. The remodeling is part of Belk’s plans to focus on existing locations, as opposed to opening new stores. Since 2007, the retailer has maintained operations of about 300 department stores, located primarily in the Southeast.
