Carrefour Sells Malaysia Operations to Japan's Aeon
November 01, 2012
French grocery chain Carrefour has sold its operations in Malaysia to Japan’s Aeon, effective Nov. 1. The transaction is part of Carrefour’s plans to refocus on its core activities and allocate its resources to countries where it occupies strong and established positions, and emerging markets where it has strong growth potential. Present in Malaysia since 1994, Carrefour is the fourth‐largest retailer in the country with 26 hypermarkets. In operation since 1984, Aeon operates 29 stores in Malaysia, and with this acquisition will establish a leading position in the market.
