DDI, Saks Announce Student Window Challenge Winner
June 11, 2012
DDI Magazine, in cooperation with Saks Fifth Avenue, hosted its first DDI Student Window Challenge on June 7 in New York. The new design competition brought together 12 visual merchandising students (grouped in two-person teams) from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), to compete for a mentorship with the Saks window team. The daylong challenge, which took place inside Saks Fifth Avenue’s 49th Street windows at the Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York, culminated with an After Party and awards presentation, where the winning team was announced. The DDI Student Window Challenge 2012 winners were Lani Gedeon and Michael Johnston (team No. 1). In addition to a one-month mentorship with Saks Fifth Avenue's visual staff, the winners also received a $500 Saks gift card and four tickets to the "Romeo and Juliet" ballet, plus backstage passes.
Materials for the competition were donated by the event sponsors, including: Architectural Systems, Centiva, Fusion, Lifestyle/Trimco, Mondo Mannequins, Seven Continents and Van Stry. Leftover materials will be donated to FIT.
Photos of the challenge and final designs, as well as the After Party, will soon be featured in DDI Magazine and online at www.ddionline.com/projectgallery.
