Family Dollar to Open 450-500 New Stores in 2012

Matthews, N.C.-based Family Dollar Stores Inc. is on track to open 450 to 500 new stores in fiscal 2012, according to The Charlotte Observer. In addition, the company plans to open its 11th distribution center in 2012, to serve its stores in California, as it increases its store presence there. The discount retailer also will continue its store renovation program, with plans to revamp another 1,000 stores. The new-store goal represents a more than 50 percent increase compared to the prior year. Currently, Family Dollar operates approximately 7,100 stores in 44 states.
