San Antonio-based H. E. Butt Grocery Co. plans to spend about $100 million to expand, remodel and relocate several of its stores in Austin, Texas, during 2012, according to the Austin American-Statesman. “Our business continues to be strong, and so this year, we’re making some huge investments in Texas,” said Craig Boyan, president and COO of H-E-B. The move is part of a larger, statewide expansion and price-cutting campaign. The projects include replacing a market near Austin’s Lakeline Mall with a 117,000-sq.-ft. H-E-B Plus store late this year or in early 2013; expanding a store in Cedar Park, Texas, by 26,000 sq. ft.; and building a new 75,000-sq.-ft. H-E-B later this year in the Mueller development in Austin. In addition, at least 10 other remodels are planned. Currently, the company operates more than 335 stores in Texas and Northern Mexico.
