Tata Starbucks Ltd., the 50/50 joint venture between Seattle-based Starbucks Corp. and Tata Global Beverages Ltd., has opened the first Starbucks store in India. Located in Mumbai’s Horniman Circle area, the store is the first of three slated to open this week, with additional stores planned for Oberoi Mall and the Taj Mahal Palace Annexe in Mumbai. The store is designed to reflect Starbucks’ coffee heritage and embrace the local culture, with local artifacts and Indian teakwood furniture, as well as floor design and interiors created by local craftsmen and artists. The flagship also offers Indian Espresso Roast, sourced locally through the coffee sourcing and roasting agreement with Tata Coffee. The Indian Espresso Roast will be a hallmark feature in all of the Starbucks stores in the market.
