Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-mart Stores Inc. plans to close a Walmart Express store in Chicago, according to Supermarket News. The 10,000-sq.-ft. store, which opened a year ago, is located in Chicago’s West Chatham neighborhood. Selling mainly groceries, the store was losing trips to a Wal-Mart Supercenter that opened next door in January. According to the company, the closing is not a reflection of the Express format, which Wal-Mart is continuing to evaluate at 10 other locations in North Carolina, Arkansas and Illinois.
