West Elm Market to Debut in Brooklyn, N.Y.
October 23, 2012

Home furnishings retailer West Elm, a division of San Francisco-based Williams-Sonoma Inc., will debut its first West Elm Market store in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 25. West Elm Market Brooklyn is located at 50 Washington St., in the same building as the brand’s home office and first décor store. The new Market concept is designed to offer customers a total home toolkit in four key categories—Kitchen, Garden, Care & Repair and Personal Care—and will focus on functional design, local production, entrepreneurship and community connections. “We were inspired by the common sense shopkeeping of the classic general store to develop a collection of genuine and useful household goods that make even the most practical chore a little more enjoyable,” said West Elm President Jim Brett. “The Market store is designed to be a place to gather, learn and connect.”

The first Market store also will include a café in collaboration with Philadelphia-based neo-traditional coffee roasters La Colombe Torrefaction and a demonstration kitchen, as well as a common area for community workshops. Following the Brooklyn store, eight Market in-store shops will open in November inside West Elm stores in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Dallas; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Nashville, Tenn.; New York; Seattle; and Toronto. The collection launches today at www.westelm.com.
